Limit State Design of Steel Structures

Introduction

Design of a building consists of two parts. viz.

  1. Functional design and
  2. Structural Design

Functional design refers to planning the building to serve its requirement taking into account ventilation, lighting, aesthetic view etc.

Structural design consist in purporting various elements  of the building such that loads acting on it are transferred safely to the ground and at the same time unnecessarily excess material is not used.

The main body of the present day structure consists of R.C.C or steel. In tall structure composite construction of steel and concrete is also commonly used.
