ASCE India Section Northern Region conducted its 1 st meeting post-elections on June 16th 2013 at Indian Building Congress, New Delhi. The objective of this meeting was to brief the members about the latest development including the election out-come. President and Secretary of ASCE ISN briefed the members about the latest in the region followed by open discussion on the path forward. Good suggestions were received through a clear and transparent discussion aiming to encourage the members for larger participation in ASCE programs. Members also felt that there is a need for a regional web page to reach-out all the members effectively. Efforts have been initiated in this direction. The meeting followed by a technical lecture.

Er. Munnenori Tsuchiya, Deputy Manager of Deputy Manager of Engineering Development Center, Nagano Keiki Co., Ltd, Tokyo, Japan. He is expert manufacturer of measurement instruments. Their fiber optic sensors and the testing and monitoring has been mandated by Japan Railways for all railway bridges, piers etc. pres¬sure sensors and instruments have been used in various industry segments worldwide. The lecture was focused on presenti ng cost¬effective and leading edge structures health monitoring system pro-actively to help monitor new or even aging Indian infrastructures. Mr. Mahesh Tandon Chairman TCPl, chaired the lecture and later briefed the members about the growing need of such technologies to benefit the future and ageing structures Dr. Gajanan M. Sabnis, Distinguished M. ASCE, P.E. The lecture was attended by 30 technocrats from leading consul¬tants and officials from various Government and private organiza¬tions such as Railways, DIMS, IRCON, JMI, TCPl, SNCLAVALlN, BECHTEL and others who wanted to take advantage ofthis oppor¬tunity to learn about new ways to address current challenges fac¬ing the construction industry. The lecture was concluded with a very interactive Question & Answer session followed by the vote of thanks by Mr Satish Vij PresidentASCEISN and lunch.
