Topic

Sydney Water operates about 24,000 km of sewer lines, which are mostly ageing and have outlived their design life. Its renewal program budget runs into $100 million per year. For the ease of management, sewer assets have been grouped into two broad categories, i.e. critical and non-critical. While non-critical assets are addressed on a reactive basis, critical assets are renewed proactively. A programmed approach is adopted for renewal (repair and rehabilitation) of critical assets.
