Two more concrete pontoons for the State Route 520 floating bridge in Seattle are slated to be floated out this week, but questions remain about their quality. Public records indicate “that not a single pontoon from the second construction cycle was leak free,” according to this article. However, “they’re well within expectations and there’s not been any alarm sounded,” said Keith Metcalf, deputy chief engineer for the Washington state transportation department. On a brighter note, repair costs are estimated at $348 million, $30 million less than originally estimated.
